Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Yogyakarta in south-central Java, Indonesia, is an ancient royal capital to which many Indonesian New Yorkers, including both ethnic Chinese and ethnic Indonesians, trace their roots. Most have migrated to New York in recent decades, settling in and around Elmhurst, Queens, where both Javanese and Indonesian are widely spoken.
