A particularly large number of Filipino New Yorkers call the city of Cagayan de Oro on the nothern coast of Mindanao home. With their long-standing seafaring tradition, Cebuano speakers from Cagayan de Oro and elsewhere found work as sailors and in the cruise industry, with many eventually making their way to New York—where Woodside, Queens became an important community hub.
