A majority of the Brazilians in Mount Vernon, a significant hub for Brazilian New Yorkers, were born in the municipality of Poços de Caldas in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Many came initially in the 1980s, but the community has grown significantly since then, and there are deepening financial, political, and community ties between the two towns.
